Sudanese ruling party welcomes Kiir’s speech

KHARTOUM, Aug 12, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress party in charge of Southern Sudan affairs Riek Gai welcomed the address by Kiir, in which he expressed his resolve for unity, reject division and work towards making unity attractive.

Gai, who is also the former chairman of the Southern Sudan Coordination Council (SSCC), has said the swearing in of Salva Kiir, as the first vice-president of the republic and the head of the Southern Sudan government, is a step towards filling the constitutional vacuum occasioned by the death of Dr John Garang.

In a press statement to the pro-governmental the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC), Gai declared his and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement commitment to implement the security arrangements and the peace accord.
