Sudanese opposition female leader back to Sudan after 13 years in exile?

KHARTOUM, Dec 17, 2003 (KUNA) — Sudanese opposition leader Fatima Ahmed Ibrahim ‏‏who spent 13 years abroad in voluntary exile returned home on Wednesday.‏

On her arrival, Fatima announced her support for all efforts aimed to stop ‏‏war in the south and confirmed that she would do her best to “fight cultural ‏‏and sectarian discrimination.”‏

She denied reports that she was dismissed from the Sudanese Communist Party ‏‏while being away, and expressed hope to unify women activities under the ‏‏Sudanese Woman Union, which she used to preside.‏

Fatima had left Sudan, together with some party leaders, when President ‏‏Omar Al-Bashir became president in 1989. She is one of the first Sudanese ‏‏women who worked in politics and had disputes with Sudanese governments, ‏‏mainly that of former President Jaafar Numairi.
