August 15, 2011 (BENTIU) - The council of ministers of Unity state said on Friday that they have approved 33,000 South Sudanese Pound (US$12,300) for the student union of Juba University.

Also on Friday 40,800 SSP (US$15,200 ) was approved for the daughter of speaker of Unity state, Nyalel Maguek Gai who is going for University in Nairobi, Kenya as part of a scheme to encourage girls to enter into higher education.

According to the State Minister of Information and Communication, Gideon Gatpan Thoar, the sponsorship will encourage girls to be involved in education.

Many people in Unity state described it as a misuse of public funds. An anonymous source told Sudan Tribune that the many of the council of state ministers disagree with the decision. He pointed to the fact that speaker receives a wage which allows him to pay for his daughter’s fees, whereas many in the state cannot.

Reaction from so many citizens in the state, described the step made by the state council of ministers as their personality interest on the rising up family of speaker to be all the time ruling in the entirely of Unity State citizens.

At the meeting, governor Taban Deng Gai expressed his appreciation for the assurance made by the vice president Riek Machar Teny, that education will be given to all the children of Unity state.

Look what i said that last week that Taban and his friends are using our 2% of oil to construct other universities in other States while there is no single University in great Unity State. there is a big corruption in Unity State, that was what LT Gatluak Gai died for. Taban is giving away money while the people in region are suffering from starvation and many other need and want. How can daughter of speaker is being give money while there are many other sons and daughters in Unity State have no access to this opportunity.

ONE DAY SOMEONE WILL ANSWER ALL THESE MISLEADING

      What a devastating news!

40,800 SSP for a scholarship of speaker’s daughter!!!!!!
Can’t you feel ashame of this act?

What is the meaning of being an MP?
If this’s the way our leaders will function then it’s meanless the independence of South Sudanese.

Do these MPs know the causes of conflict?

It’s a very huge money which can feed the population of Unity state in various sections for the bebnfit of the entire community.

Is God sleeping or awake? I think He has gone into a deep asleep!

Why should the poor people become poorer and the rich are becoming richer.

There is no reason to whatever extend of explanation to be given.
By the way what criteria was used to select the daughter of the speaker?
Does it mean that she has the highest average among the other girls of Unity State or no another girl else with the same paper as that of Speaker’s daughter?

It is our mistake the youth who bring such leaders to represent us.

My advice to the speaker is to wihtdraw the scholarsip for the sake of safety of her daughter and himself and for the sake of Christ.

It look simple by those MPs and these are the issues leading of mistrusting the State government and people begin talking against it, so promoting girls to higher education DOES NOT mean that we bring in the daughters of MPs or minsters whom their fathers are the one getting high pay in the government. what about from vulnerable/poor families children that are willing and have no means of paying school fees?

SHAME ON THOSE DECISION MAKERS IN Unity Sate- I hope other state should not bring or try to practice such corruptions

    Bonifacio Taban Kuich.

I think Speaker and the rest of Unity MP should be careful on how the public funds should be use wisely. Her father is a leader and he must paid his daughter’s education otherwise, this is exactly part of corruption our people must be careful.

There are thousand young people who have no any close relatives working in neither State level nor GOSS level but they desperately need those fund to get education.

My question to that speaker is that, was the father[Speaker] not able to pay his daughter.? The late Dr. John Garang said, we need to bring Towns to the people so why the Speaker is taking public fund rather than those in the far away community.? He must have to pay his children if he is working. Our people must learn how to do things right for all people rather than making thing in a favoritism way this is absolutely corruption when the father don’t want to pay his own kids and just want to depending on the government fund.

Dr.Machar is from Naath Nuer and he is not like you who came from somewhere to be used by Kiir and Garang boys to kill the children of Unity State.

Corruption has grown its horns in Unity State. Why give scholarship to the governor’s daughter while a governor can afford to pay for daughter’s school fees.
    Shame, shame, shame!

It will be unforgivable crime if our sisters and mothers are made to be prostitutes of having children and cleaning a man’s rubbish without an educated mind to define their rights in the proud nation that would and will ever needs the healthy mind of a knowledgeable woman.

Men educated these days in our country rebels to their nation’s prosperity and women don’t nor kill innocent and lead without conscience of guilt. Our women with brave hearts will lead one day and we must give the opportunity and all it may cost us at the hour as a nation to strengthen them to live in a nation that protects and nurture them through such initiative.

A great country of proud mothers and daughters that nurture a man who will decide our fates and prosperity from and without siding with the enemy is the country we are heading to.

“Congratulation” Nyalel Maguek Gai, good on you, be fired up and aim hig, You are a daughter of a proud nation. Scores best grates and enjoy as much you want to because your flag is flying. God bless you as you pursue best out your life to give others a chance to make best out of their life.

@ Mach, problem is not we are denying our daughters a education but the way politicians used the public money to benefit their families.
You and I know that, this politicians are well pay and the can afford their children education if the want to. Their daughters can have scholarship if the are to fit in the need. What about a poor girl whose her education is end short because of lack of funds and parents are unfortunate to afford it? Isn’t the one to get these money if these leaders are making sense.
My friend, that is a corruption and I think these politicians are forgetting who the are governs.

This son of Nuer whore and Arab parasite father had been an extravagantly 2% money oil of Unity State since he been a Governor of Unity State. He know that the majority oil field are in Dinka Ruweng lands, but at the same time, he still give away some Dinka Ruweng land to Arab Misseriya. One of my friend told me that he gave land of Gokyak to Misseriya.
He use State money for political gain, instead for State development.

I think politicians in South Sudan are lacking sense of analysis and patriotism in this matter. Instate of promoting children of the poor families which be the best practices in their political careers, they are just supporting their children to be the best yet they have dull mines which allows them not to concentrates in class rather than prostitution and alcoholism.

I am very pity about this new country politicians. They will never do any good thing for this nation, just forget about them.....

In a corruption free system, It is not children of the able who are the first to benefit from state funded scholarships but girls who are supposed to go out of schools because their parents are not able to pay their schools fees.

This decision shows how incompetent Unity State leadership is? But, hey, that is normal for Nuer, they do not consider repercussions when they make their decisions. This is not Taban Deng problem alone, even the so called GatMachar suffers from those syndromes of foolishness.

    Dear Readers,

As Southerners we turn to believe thruogh physical practicalities which is one of the most fundamental and approved legal procedures. Beside that, the initiative step taken by Mr.Governor is a pure element of the so-called corruption which is one of the President top agenda but am pretty much sure that Mr. president and his anti-corruption commissioner are short sighted to address this issue simply because Governor Taban is one of Mr. President personal donor so he wouldn’t be bothering himselves in jotting his name to book.

    2. If I were Mr speaker I would have definetely reject the offer and advise Mr. Taban that I will pay my own daughter scholarship just the sake of classified into corruption list.

    3. It is now clear for those who used to defend Mr. Governor of not being corrupted but the untold rumours has revealed itself in the day light seen and that is why our State suffered while we got resources especially our 2% of oil. If one ask a question, Where is this 2% ? And what part of the State have we developed so far since those 6 years ?

However, I wish Taban should have develop the State by constructing roads to link our businesses and State University, State Hospital as well as counties hospitals and so forth rather than misusing public funds unwisely. How can such failure person claim a federal ministerial position he is suffered from a chronical corruption.

To Mr. Kiir where else will you get a corrupt Governor if you can’t see Taban corruption ? A shame on you both.

This is why President Salva Kiir has been imposing and forcing Taban Deng as Unity State Governor all these times. This money should have been used for building schools with in Bentiu.

To make it worse, this is a daughter to an MP who is earning more than others in government. He should have sponsored his daughter with his own money. What will he uses his money for?

If this is what our leaders are doing, we are then in a big prblem. There will be no development. It will always be corruption.

Youths let us be carefull, we shoulden’t adapt this in the near future when we becomes leaders.

      Thanks.
      God Knows.

What is funny/amusing of announced one politician’s daughter instead of Unity State top classes students been given sponsorship? Is she the only clever in the whole State or because she is a daughter of speaker?
This indicate that there are too much corruption going on in the State. Only politician’s children can be given scholarship, but the poor children are on thier own.
    This is so suck.

Wake up, this is not happening alone in Unity State. It’s happening behind the curtain in all the ten states of the Republic of South Sudan.

And remember, we thought we got our freedom, but there’s still a big struggle ahead of us especially the Youth.

What can you say about this? I hope this is where we can say there is corruption. Acorruption that can only be changed by us the youths. A big politician’s daughter being sponsored using state fund?

Isen’t it a shame to this soo called Speaker? On the other hand, isent’t it a decampaigning issue for his future leadership. The people of unity state will ask themselves one time that, the government’s fund was used for his daughter, he will do the same to his grand daughters once elected again.

South sudan is really in a big problem of corruption. What I know soo far is that this money will never be used for that purpose, this is just a trick.

      Regards.

So you have to step up for your right like you did fight for your right with Arabs I you don’t that mean you all will suffer lots because when country is ruling by military thats mean everything will always go for they favor and all you will do is just express your feeling on the web, but that isn’t enough you need action and go for strike so the world will no your problems.
