November 26, 2013 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir, has fired the national minister of environment, Abdallah Deng Nhial after he was allegedly involved in physical fight with a lawmaker from Warrap state.

In a presidential decree issued on Tuesday, Kiir said the minister was relieved from his job with effect from 26 November. A replacement has yet to be named.

Although the decree did not explain the reason for the minister’s removal, many believed his fight with Machok Majong Jong last week prompted his dismissal.

Majong is a lawmaker representing Gogrial West county.

It’s understood that an argument between the pair on the premises of the national parliament in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, escalated in to a physical fight.

Eyewitnesses said Both Nhial and Majong were arguing in a larger group over the fate of the contested Abyei region in the office of the chairman of the parliamentary affairs committee, before the debate turned into a tit-for-tat exchange of insults.

Nhial, who hails from Bor South constituency in Jonglei state, reportedly asserted that “Abyei was already a gone case as part of South Kordofan” in Sudan; a view point which was said to have angered Majong.

It’s alleged that Nhial slapped the Gogrial West county legislator after he criticised Nhial for using “bad names”.

Politicians from Warrap state, as well as a youth group, lobbied the president to take action against the former minister.

Following the incident, Majong attempted to raise a motion in parliament, calling for a vote of no-confidence against the minister.

However, a member of parliament told Sudan Tribune that the request was dismissed, with the aggrieved MP advised to look for other legal avenues.

A press statement issued by the Warrap State Youth Intellectuals Forum (WSYIF), and signed by their chairman, Peter Mayenwen Majongdit, condemns the minister’s actions.

“WSYIF calls on the national minister to apologise to the people of the constituency of Kuach North and South Gogrial West, because the act done by the minister [has] disgraced the entire community of Gogrial West and the people represented by the Hon Machok Majong Jong”, the statement reads in part.

The youth group also pressed the country’s leadership to take strong disciplinary measures against the minister.

The former minister was a senior leader in Sudan’s Popular Congress Party (PCP) led by Hassan Al-Turabi, who contested for the presidency in the 2010 elections. He was among the new ministers Kiir appointed to Kiir’s cabinet in August after his 23 July reshuffle.

Incompetent Kiir is an emotional tribal leader, may be Abdalla Deng Nhial didn’t know that before. Slapping MP of Gogrial West county where Kiir exactly comes from, was a CRIME of the first degree according to Kiir’s justice system. He didn’t punish his MP who first insulted the minister, but responded to the request of his Gogrial people to fire the minister. What a leader!

Abdalla Deng Nhial is a Khartoumer who knows the recent secret deals between incompetent Kiir and criminal Bashir on Abyei issue, and that is why he said Abyei was already a gone case. He meant that Kiir sold it, and this revelation angered Kiir’s MP.

I’m agreed with Mr Midiit 100%. It’s true that Kiir Dismissed Dend Nhail because he is revealing the truth about Abiey issue. And the order to dismiss him came direct from Bashir of Khartoum. Because Bashir did not want any minister from Kiir’s government to behave differently.

There are so many questions than the answers in the way our president had acted,His action and the youth reactions are one and the same to me,to be from a certain ethic community is an individual i identity that need to be used in good faith but not for feeding selfish self-ego,Nhail should have been given an opportunity to be heard either in court of law or a formed tribunal before his sacking

If the contrary is proved then he deserve to exit the docket like any other person, but the sacking and the reactions from the group calling themselves who they are, is creating feelings around the whole issue Deng was not fighting himself ,the two should be criminally liable for fighting in public, then the president can act on the weight of evidence not before the alleged crime investigated .

we all know the content of the argument, the solution to the problem of Abyei is not to point the blaming figures on one other,we either go into War with Arabs or leave it to the people of Abyei come back the way the went, let not solve our problems a long the ethnic community line, otherwise we are heading the road running to no where.

While in it, let speculate what must have transpired. Abyei hasn’t gone anywhere as there is no ruling on it but the MP must have called Jallaba Deng a "traitor" which he’s . Ala, truth hurts, a born loser who like to join winners goes home empty-handed wallowing on next trip to Khartoum but the decorated bloody MP got community fixing his nose while still maintaining what he rightly deserves.

To the public, please be non bias and respectful when commenting, by commenting sagaciously your comment may be the one that make the difference. As 100% nationalist and wise man, I have two concerns that I need to bring to your attention pertaining the unfolding political tension in our republic South Sudan.
First our president Salva Kiir Mayerdit is becoming a one sided man based on some of his

..decrees and decisions.(an example the dismission of the Minister and non action against the MP and much more...)Acting in such manner Mr president is not healthy for the unity of the nation because it is likely to create unnecessary division or tribal tension. On other hand, former vice-president Riek Machar is responsible for creating confusion and unnecessary power struggle within the SPLM party

continuation.. If the former president is not satified with his boss as he is, then let him form his own party and challenge the president from the opposition. You cannot be a opposition within because it is not workable and it only creates more animosity, hatred between you and the president and and unnecessary tribal tension at large. The public need to be aware of these two issues before hand.

    Justice,
Understand you’re still writing but you already hit nail right on with remark Riak as initiator of current situations. Only in South Sudan can VP announce to unseat his president from same Party two yrs away. Got love our unlawfulness. I read as joke but indeed Jallaba Deng took a page from Riek, insulted president on medias while remaining VP why not knocking stupid disable MP..lol

Kiir random appointment of ministers has now resulted into great disappointment. I think Kiir lacks common sense, if he does he shouldn’t have made a mistake to appoint black Arabs like Abdulla Deng into his government, those people with Arab’s slavery record are spies they will always work against the interest of S. Sudan. I wish Honorable Machok would have shot that loony idiot in the head.

Is this another tribalism justice? Why dismissed only one minister & leave the other while both insult each other, Don’t president know that verbal insult also could be punishable? This not looking good on president side, Kiir suppose to be country’s leader not Gokriel president. Very bad, really bad bad stupid action and Kiir should be ashame!!!

Do not mess with the people in Jonglie. They will slap you. Jonglei brought you the country, peace and money that you are now abusing. You deserve to be slapped and get a good looking eye. Bar Elgazal thieves shall think twice before insulting Nhial.

Leadership is about self control and Abdalla Deng Nhial should have resigned before, being sucked. What image does it show to the world if a minister is involved I a physical fight with MP.
I think the reason. Which led to Deng’s removed has something to do with what he said that Abyei is already a gone case. Very irresponsible statement. Not the fight

Laugh, it was a set-up by Kuol Manyang & Makuei Lueth because the Dinka Bor/Bor County politicians were embrassed in recent Cabinet appointment that did land Dinka Bor/Bor County three full ministers. And more than 20 Dinka sub-tribes were overlooked by corrupt. The voices of others Dinka sub-tribes had been heard. The last cabinets did even create bad atmosphere among Dinkas: Twi, Nyarweng, Hol,e
