Gunfire rocks W. Bahr el Ghazal police headquarters

March 02, 2015 (WAU) – The police headquarters in Western Bahr el Ghazal state was a scene of heavy gunfire as officers protested over delays in payment of salaries.

The angry officers claimed they had not been paid their January and February salaries.

No casualties were reported from the incident, which paralysed business in Wau town.

“What is happening now in the police is the issue of our money. We are striking about our money, we are working to serve the nation and also to get the benefit of our work, but if three months are going without getting our salaries, what does it mean?,” a police officer, who asked not to be identified, told Sudan Tribune on Monday.

Eyewitness said the officers threatened to shoot anyone who enters the police gate.

The state police commissioner, Maj. General Abraham Manyuat could not be reached.
