January 21, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) has claimed that it captured a new position from government forces near Talodi town in South Kordofan state.

In a statement released extended to Sudan Tribune , SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, said on Wednesday morning their fighters “managed to liberate Talodi-Alnuba village after the capture of an out-post of the Sudanese army, located west of Talodi town”.

Lodi further said the government forces fled into Talodi, and enumerated a number of military equipments saying they captured from the Sudanese army troops.

In Khartoum, the army spokesperson was not reachable for comment on this attack.

The fighting resumed between the warring parties in South Kordofan after the failure of the African Union mediated process to reach a framework agreement aiming to cease hostilities and pave the way for the SPLM-N to join a national process over political reforms.

On Tuesday, the Sudanese government announced the eminent arrival of the chief mediator Thabo Mbeki in Khartoum to discuss the resumption of the peace talks in Addis Ababa.

Mbeki who mediates another parallel track on Darfur conflict seeks to bring the two parties to discuss issues related to security arrangements before hold a national forum to prepare for the internal dialogue process.

Recently the Sudanese aid body Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) said they expect the arrival of nearly 145,000 civilians from the conflict areas in South and West Kordofan states, as result of the ongoing fighting there.
