Egypt to invest in animal and fisheries industry

September 8, 2015 (WAU) – A delegation from Egypt on Tuesday pledged to fully invest in animal and fisheries products in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state.

The team, led by Sader Shebi, told Sudan Tribune their visit aimed at building the capabilities of working staffs in the project and further enhance research on it.

Both technical and field staffs, Shebi revealed, were part of the visiting delegation.

“We are in the advance stage of the project. The coming step will be to sign the executive contract between the two governments and implementation of the projects,” he added.

The visiting delegation from the Egyptian embassy in Juba also held bi-lateral talks with several Western Bahr el Ghazal state officials on a number of socio-economic issues.

Landlocked South Sudan is endowed with considerable inland fishery resources, mainly centred on the River Nile, it’s tributaries, several lakes, swamps as well as wetlands. However, although information on fisheries in South Sudan is only partially available, it is estimated the world’s youngest nation has around 30,000 tons of fish, which is regarded to be generally below the between 75,000-300,000 tons of fish believed to be within the Sudanese territory.
