Jonglei welcomes re-appointment of defense minister

May 8, 2016 (BOR)-The people of South Sudan’s Jonglei state have welcomed President Salva Kiir’s decision to re-appoint Kuol Manyang as the country’s defence minister.

Manyang, a former state governor, is one of the ministers named in the 30-month Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU).

At a ceremony organized Sunday to recognise his appointment, the defense minister was hailed for his role in the Sudan People Liberation Movement’s (SPLM) high command, from the start of the liberation struggle till now.

Jonglei state governor, Philip Aguer, said Manyang was among the few survivors of SPLA/M top leadership who never rebelled against the will of South Sudanese.

“Kuol is among the very few people who are alive today. He had been keeping the light lighting,” said Aguer while addressing the media in the state capital, Bor on Saturday.
As the new governor, however, Aguer said he would help the improve service delivery and help the people get rid of ignorance, laziness, hatred, and work in good faith.

“We hope that the liberation is not over, we have liberated ourselves from the oppressor and we have not liberated ourselves from backwardness, lack of services, ignorance and diseases,” stressed the governor.

He added, “This is why we pray to God that the revolution of the SPLM/A high command continues in the presence of Kuol Manyang”.

According to Aguer, South Sudanese expect the newly-formed transitional of national unity to work towards improving delivery of services to the people of South Sudan.

“We are happy to see that the transitional government of national unity had been formed, the people of Jonglei state, together with the rest will enjoy the dividend of peace. We hope that the government will deliver services to the people and not sabotage itself,” he explained.

The people of Jonglei, in during the same occasion, equally welcomed the re-appointment of Michael Makuei Lueth as South Sudan’s minister for information,
