Police commissioner, James Monday, while speaking advised the new recruits to provide security and maintain law and order in the 10 Greater Western Equatoria counties.

The police [officers] who have been graduated reached at a professional level during their training and they are going to exercise their duties to the best of the expectation from the community, said Monday.

The recruits, he explained, were taught law, criminal investigation and other skills in the six months course.

Western Equatoria, the official said, has one of the best training centers for police recruits in the young nation. This is the third batch recruits since the 2009 and 2011 lot.

Meanwhile, the governor of Gbudue, one the country’s newly created states, said it was the policy of government to train the locals in order to maintain peace and security.

Police have a great role to play among the community as they monitor the day to day security issues and protect the citizens as well as their properties, said Patrick Zamoi.

He, however, urged the new recruits to go and practice what they acquired during the training and shun corruption.

A Yambio resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the government needs more efforts on training police, describing them as custodians of law and order in society.
