South Sudan peace parties agree to form unity gov’t as scheduled

November 7, 2019 (KAMPALA) – The signatories of the revitalized peace agreement have agreed in a meeting held in Kampala to form the transitional national unity government.

“The meeting agreed to form the government as scheduled on 12 November, as Sudan and Uganda will protect SPLM-IO Dr Riek Machar,” said Stephen Lual Ngor the Spokesman of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM), when reached by Sudan Tribune at the end of the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Presidents Yoweri Museveni, Salva Kiir, the head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar as well as Kenya’s special envoy to South Sudan Kalonzo Musyoka.

The parties further agreed to work during the first three months to finalize the implementation of the security arrangements and the state boundaries.
