UN warns of relief shortage in Sudan
KHARTOUM, Jun 22, 2005 (Xinhua) — The United Nations on Wednesday warned of an expected relief shortage in southern and eastern Sudan.
Radia Achouri, spokeswoman of UN special envoy in Sudan Jan Pronk, told reporters that relief for returnees in both eastern and southern Sudan is facing a severe shortage of resources.
Achouri said that the total money needed for carrying out relief operations was 302 million US dollars, but only 49 million dollars has been collected.
She warned that the coming rainy season from August to October would affect programs to aid returnees in post-war southern Sudan.
