US’s Zoellick to attend July 9 inauguration of the new government

WASHINGTON, June 26, 2005 (SUNA) — An American delegation, which is to be led by US Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, is to participate in Sudan’s celebrations marking the start of the interim period and the inauguration of the President of the Republic and his deputies on July 9, the Chargé d’Affaires of Sudan Embassy in Washington, Ambassador Khidir Haroun Ahmed, said.

In a statement to SUNA, Ambassador Ahmed said the participation by the American Administration in the occasion comes as a fruit of the Peace Agreement and the ongoing steps for the normalization of relations between Khartoum and Washington.

He described the visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mustafa Osman Ismail, to Washington as successful.

Meanwhile, Ismail met with the Arab ambassadors in Washington and called on them to support Sudan’s efforts for realizing peace and stability in the country.

Ismail would leave on Saturday for New York on a two-day visit during which he would meet with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.
