Arab League mulls opening office in South Sudan

CAIRO, July 6, 2005 (MENA) — Arab League Secretary-General Amr Musa is considering opening an office in South Sudan to coordinate Arab cooperation on extending assistance to Sudan, said counsellor Samir Hosni, director of the League’s Africa department on Wednesday.

Amr_musa.jpgHosni told MENA that Musa’s decision to open the office was a step towards backing reconstruction in South Sudan.

He said the League was coordinating with Sudan and with donor countries for this purpose in order to achieve Arab and international coordination on reconstruction efforts in South Sudan.

Hosni, meanwhile, said an agreement was reached between Musa and head of the African Union Commission Alpha Oumar Konare on holding the second Arab-African summit within two years.
