Sudan’s Garang holds talks with former vice-president

KHARTOUM, July 16, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The first vice-president of the Republic, John Garang, met in his office today the former second vice-president, George Kongor Arop (1994 – 2000).

Apro congratulated Garang over his new appointment as the first vice-president of the Republic, as well as the signing of the interim constitution.

During the meeting they also discussed the peace agreement. Arop said he would support the new government of national unity.

On the other hand, Garang received vice-chancellors of the University of Juba, University of Bahar Ghazal and University of Upper Nile, stressing the important role the universities could play in the coming phase in southern Sudan with regards to development and raising social awareness among the people there and spreading the peace culture.

The meeting also reviewed role the universities could play in the coming period in southern Sudan as well as the problems they face.
