Sudan, European Union agree on importance of their partnership

KHARTOUM, July 18, 2005 (SUNA) — Sudan and the European Union have underscored the importance of the partnership between them and expressed their aspiration for more firm and effective ties between them.

This came at a meeting Monday between the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Najeeb Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab, and a delegation of the European Troika, headed by the Ambassador of Britain to Sudan and included the Ambassadors of France and the European Union.

The meeting reviewed the adopted arrangements on implementation of the peace agreement and progress of human rights.

The minister informed the delegation about the steps adopted with regard to the implementation of the peace agreement, indicating that the Constitution for the interim period clearly stipulated the commitment to the international agreements on human rights.

He also referred to the remarkable improvement of the situation of human rights in Darfur, the measures which were adopted by the concerned state authorities for protection of the citizens in Darfur and the work of the National Court for violations in Darfur.

The meeting also deliberated about arrangements related to the European Union’s aid to the African Union forces.
