Uganda “seeks” to pursue rebels deeper into Sudan
Sept 11, 2005 (KAMPALA) Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Spokesman Lt-Col Shaban Bantariza has said government is seeking permission from the Sudanese government to permit UPDF pursue Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel leader Joseph Kony beyond the Red Line.
Speaking in a telephone interview to Radio Uganda, Lt-Col Bantariza said Joseph Kony had fled deeper inside southern Sudan, where UPDF is not permitted to operate.
Bantariza explained that UPDF have permission to pursue the LRA rebels up to the Red Line along Jeba-Jabuleni-Tolit road.
He said the rebels had fled from Kit valley about three weeks ago.
