Sudan’s Kiir receives draft constitution for south

Sept 12, 200 (JUBA) — The Sudanese first vice-president, who is also the president of the Southern Sudanese government, Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit, received a copy of the draft interim constitution for the south yesterday.

The draft constitution was presented to the vice-president by members of the southern Sudan constitution review commission led by their chairman Prof Akol Matib.

During a joint press conference, which was held at the HQ of the southern Sudanese government in Juba between the committee members and the vice-president, Kiir said that the draft constitution would be presented to the Ministry of Justice for revision in accordance with the general principles guiding the country’s interim constitution, after which, he said, the southern government would be formed.

He further said that the list of nominees of the southern members of parliament has been finalized.
