Slovak Republic writes off Sudan’s debts
Oct 26, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Slovak Republic decided to write off its debts on Sudan, amounting to 38 million US dollars, in compliance with its official developmental aid programme.
This was conveyed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lam Akol Ajawin, by the General Honorary Consul of Slovak Republic to Sudan, Nasral-Din Shulgamay, who affirmed support of Slovak Republic to Sudan in domains of democratic transformation, good governance and economic fields.
The Honorary Consul further expressed the desire of the Slovak Republic State Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit Sudan heading a high-level technical delegation to explore areas of cooperation between the two countries in economic, political, cultural and technical domains.
Meanwhile, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Jamal Mohamed Ibrahim, said a reflection of the Slovak Republic keenness to develop relations with Sudan was the upgrading of the Slovak honorary consulate in Sudan to Consulate General in the previous period.
The Ambassador further referred to the academic scholarships being offered to Sudan by Slovak Republic, adding that cooperation is expected to increase in this field following the visit of the State Minister of Slovak Republic to Sudan in the coming period.
The General Honorary Consul of Slovak Republic to Sudan, Nasral-Din Shulgamay – a Sudanese national – was appointed last week by the Slovac government.
