Ethiopia ruling party signs agreement of alliance with five parties

Nov 9, 2005 (ADDIS ABABA) — The ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has signed an agreement of alliance with five parties.

According to the agreement signed here on Wednesday at the office of the Prime Minister, the alliance is essential to discuss and pass decisions on economic, development and various mutual issues as well as strengthen people to people relations.

The parties that signed the agreement with the EPRDF are the Afar National Democratic Party (ANDP), the Somali People’s Democratic Party (SPDP), the Benishangul Gumuz People’s DemocraticUnity Front (BGPDUF), the Gambella People’s Democratic Movement (GPDM) and the Harari National League (HNL).

The agreement focuses on exchanging information and having a common stance on economic, development and other affairs.

The alliance, which is led by executives drawn from the signatory parties, has the mandate to monitor, coordinate and assess activities.

Public coordination and participation advisor to the Prime Minister with the rank of Minister, Abay Tsehaye said the alliance would form a cooperation committee at the House of Peoples Representatives.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi signed the agreement of alliance on behalf of EPRDF, while Mehammed Kedir, Abdi Alishiga, Reshied Mehammed, Ket Chuat, and Murad Abdulahi signed representing ANDP, SPDP, BGPDUF, GPDM and HNL respectively.
