Eritrea releases Sudanese detainees
Dec 19, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — In a step to improve the atmosphere of the Sudanese-Eritrean relations, the Eritrean security forces have released a number of Sudanese citizens that it had detained.
A number of them were handed over to the Sudanese embassy in Asmara amongst them is Capt Walid Madhali al-Tawm who has been in prison since 2003.
A well informed Eritrean source said that the detainees who were released had arrived in Kassala yesterday and were interrogated by security organs.
The Sudanese-Eritrean relations are heading for improvement following the exchanged visits between the two countries in the last two months by the first vice-president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, two weeks ago, as well as the foreign minister Dr Lam Akol and the presidential advisor, Gazi Salah Eddine.
