Belarusian Foreign Minister to visit Sudan

Feb 2, 2006 (MINSK) — Belarusian Foreign Minister Syarhey Martynaw will pay official visits to Egypt and Sudan on 4-9 February, the Belarusian news agency Belapan reported on 2 February, quoting the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman.

In the course of his visit to Sudan, Martynaw is to hold talks with that country’s president, the foreign minister and the minister of energy and mining.

It is planned that a memorandum on cooperation between the foreign ministries of Belarus and Sudan will be signed during the visit.

Belarus hopes to boost ties with Sudan with an eye to increasing industrial exports and playing a role in developing the African country’s oilfields.

Also, the Belarusian Minsk Tractor Plant works with Sudanese companies in 1990. It has provided that country with 1,886 Belarus tractors since.
