Arab League discusses agenda of Khartoum summit
Mar 19, 2006 (CAIRO) — Permanent delegates at the Arab League began meetings here Sunday to discuss the political agenda for the upcoming Arab summit, which will be chaired by Sudan, and will be held in the capital Khartoum.
The two-day meeting are aimed at discussing the Summit’s agenda. The delegates will present a report on the results of the meeting to Arab foreign affairs ministers, who are due to meet on the 25th and 26th of March.
In an inaugural speech, Sudan’s representative Mohamed Mabrouk and Sudanese foreign ministry official said that his country is looking forward for this summit after three decades of hosting the 1st Arab summit in August 1967.
Mabrouk added that the summit’s agenda includes important issues such as developments in Palestine and Iraq, in addition to the drought problem in southern Sudan, aid to Somalia, and the situation in Syria and Lebanon
Mabrouk said his country was hopeful the summit will implement plans to create the Arab security and peace council, and the Arab justice court as well as finalizing implementation of the new voting system.
