Sudanese central bank to open brach in Juba

May 8, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The first vice-president of the republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has praised the serious and advanced steps taken by the Sudan’s Central Bank to open a branch in southern Sudan.

salva_kirr_3.jpgKiir also lauded the bank for its efforts to establish cooperation in policies and relations with the south.

The governor of Bank of Sudan, Sabir Mohamed al-Hassan, said after meeting Kiir yesterday at the Council of Ministers’ that he briefed the First Vice-President on the developments in the banking sector and the stage reached of opening a branch in Juba, as part of a continuous report to the Presidency under the framework of the ongoing steps to implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

The governor said the Bank of Sudan has issued licences to Al-Nilein Bank and the Kenya Commercial Bank to start operations in the south.
