SPLM delegation in Eritrea for Independence Day celebrations

May 24, 2006 (ASMARA) — A delegation from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) headed by the Secretary General Pagan Amum arrived in Asmara to attend the 15 Eritrea’s independence day celebrations.

Pagan_Amun.jpgThe Sudanese delegation is expected to hold discussions with various high Eritrean government officials on issues pertaining the strengthening of bilateral relations between the ruling People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) and the SPLM as well as the relations between the government of Eritrea and that of the National Unity Government of the Sudan.

Abdellah Jabir, head of organizational Affairs of the PFDJ and other high level Eritrean dignitaries received the SPLM delegation upon its arrival at the Asmara International Airport yesterday.

Another official delegation headed by the Second Vice-President Ali Osman Taha is in Asmara to attend Eritrea independence celebrations.

Taha, who met the Eritrean president Issaias Afeworki today, discussed bilateral ties and issues of joint concern with the political leadership. The vice-president reiterated Sudan’s commitment to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

He also welcomed the fact that Eritrea would extend its role to support the country’s efforts to settle the Eastern Sudan conflict and to achieve stability.
