Jordan, Sudan sign 18 trade agreements
June 9, 2006 (AMMAN) — The Joint Jordanian-Sudanese Higher Committee (JJSHC) concluded on Thursday 8 June its fourth session in Amman. The two sides signed 18 agreements, memoranda of understanding, executive programmes.
During the final session, Al-Bakhit delivered a speech in which he noted that agreements, memoranda of understanding and the exclusive programmes signed between the two countries in all domains are considered to be part of the existing relations between the two countries.
Al-Bakhit pointed to efforts being exerted by the Jordanian and Sudanese officials to increase the volume of trade exchange and remove challenges facing the development of economic relations.
Al-Bakhit highlighted the importance of following up the signed agreements, noting that we look forward to developing ties with Sudan in all domains.
The Sudanese Second Vice President for his part said that the meetings of the committee are deemed an opportunity to promote relations, adding he will present the agreements to the Sudanese president and cabinet.
The talks, which were chaired by Prime Minister Al-Bakhit and Sudanese vice-president, discussed the best means to increase trade and investment exchange between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to refrain from imposing customs or non-customs restrictions on goods and products, highlighting the necessity of activating the follow up committee within the bilateral freed trade agreement.
They also agreed to examine the prospect of establishing a regional export centre in Al-Aqabah, through which the joint Jordanian-Sudanese products will be exported to other countries. On the other hand, they stressed the importance of participating in international exhibitions and organizing specialized fairs to highlight their export potentials
The two sides agreed to hold meetings of the fifth session of Joint Jordanian-Sudanese Higher Committee in the second half of 2007 in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
On the other hand, King Abdallah of Jordan and Sudanese Second Vice President tackled during a meeting on Thursday the possibility of inaugurating marine line to increase exports between Jordan and Sudan.
