Cuba, Sudan sign five documents to improve relations

HAVANA, Nov 15, 2003 (Xinhua) — Cuba and Sudan have signed five documents at the first meeting of the Cuba-Sudan mixed inter- governmental commission, the Granma daily reported on Saturday.

The documents include the Mixed Commission Protocol, a memorandum of understanding on education and health, and an agreement on agricultural cooperation.

Sudan’s International Cooperation Minister Yousif Souliman said that with the signing of these agreements a new chapter in the Khartoum-Havana relations has been opened, the newspaper said.

Cuban Minister for Foreign Investment and Collaboration Marta Lomas said that the first meeting of the mixed commission is an example of the will of both governments to work in identifying areas of collaboration.

The two sides also showed interest in cooperation in sports and youth affairs, and culture.

During his stay in Cuba, where he arrived on Nov. 9, Yousif Souliman held talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez and Cuban vice ministers in charge of health, education, agriculture, foreign trade.
