S. Sudan Democratic Forum suspends US branch activities
Aug 16, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The acting secretary-general of the South Sudan Democratic Forum, Stanslaus Wani Jada, told Khartoum Monitor that his party has suspended political activities of its branch committees in the USA and Canada.
“It has come to the attention and knowledge of the National Executive Committee of the SSDF that certain unprincipled elements, masquerading (or posing) as members of SSDF, have been using the name of the party, through electronic means (Internet), to make press releases and statements in direct contravention of the constitution and by-laws of the SSDF.
“Those individuals who make these statements have no authority to make public announcements of current political issues,” he explained.
Jada went on to say those individuals have made unfounded allegations against the leadership of the Government of National Unity (GONU) and the Government of South Sudan (GOSS), in which the SSDF is a participant. He clarified that the “unprincipled elements” targeted leaders of SSDF, the GONU, the president and leaders of GOSS.
“The national executive committee strongly believes that these elements, if allowed to continue, would harm the interests of Sudan, SSDF in a way that would jeopardize the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)” national interests embodied in the CPA, interim constitutions of Sudan and south Sudan, and the normal functioning of the governments in Sudan would also be harmed, according to Jada.
He said the SSDF will not hesitate to take legal action against those who will continue to raise false allegations in public fora, including the press, individuals, leaders and or institutions of the Government in Sudan.
