Ethiopians raise funds for flood victims

PRESS RELEASE

August 24, 2006 — Ethiopians in the UK are raising funds for those who have been affected by the worst floods on record in Ethiopia. Floods have killed hundreds and still threaten many tens of thousands.

Ongoing efforts by the Ethiopian government and the international community provide immediate humanitarian assistance and those in danger are being moved to the relative safety of higher ground.

A fundraising event will be held on Saturday 26th August at 3pm, organised by the Ethiopian National Consensus Forum in collaboration with the Ethiopian embassy.

The event will include traditional music and dance, a raffle, an auction and Ethiopian food, wine and beer donated by Ethiopian restaurants, supermarkets and business people. Private individuals have donated items to sell.

The fundraising event will be held on Saturday 26th August from 3pm to 8pm at the Ethiopian Embassy, 17 Princes Gate, London SW7 1PZ. Tube South Kensington or Knightsbridge. Buses 9, 10 or 52

Raffle prizes include Ethiopian Airlines return tickets to Ethiopia and a return Eurostar ticket to Paris or Brussels.

The Ethiopian National Consensus Forum is a registered charity in the United Kingdom (reg. charity no. 1103925) which supports the ongoing efforts to reinforce food security in Ethiopia, promotes women’s rights and gives its backing to HIV/Aids prevention programmes and peace building in Ethiopia.
