Sudan welcomes French role in Darfur crisis resolution

Nov 12, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan welcomed French role in the resolution of Darfur crisis affirming that it has no hostile intentions towards Chad and Central African Republic.

Doust_e-Balzy_Lam_Akol_Khm_12112006.jpgThe Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, has reaffirmed the importance of the French role in seeking to reach an agreement on all issues and particularly the implementation of Darfur Peace Agreement, pointing out to the French role as a partner in all the development operations in the Sudan.

The Foreign Minister Lam Akol said that France has expressed desire to boost the peace process in Darfur. He described his meeting with his French counterpart, Philippe Douste-Blazy, as fruitful and would result in positive outcome at the bilateral relations level.

The State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al Samani Al Wasilla has pointed out in press statements following the meeting between the President and the visiting French Foreign Minister that the meeting reviewed the relations between Sudan and each of Chad and Central African Republic.

He said the President of the Republic has stressed Sudan’s respect for the sovereignty of the two countries and that it has no hostile intentions towards any of the two neighbouring countries.

The State Minister has revealed that the President of the Central African Republic, Francois Bouzize, will visit the country in the coming few days.

Douste-Blazy discussed with the Presidential Advisor, Salah Eddine Attabani ways of supporting Darfur peace agreement, enhancing the situation in the region and pushing ahead the peace process through the role of France in the region.

In a press statement after his meeting Sunday with the visiting French Foreign Minister, Attabani said that Douste-Blazy expressed the desire of his country to assist Sudan in achieving a final solution for Darfur crisis and its overcoming its consequences, such as the resolution 1706.

While the Sudanese president renewed in the meeting with the French minister his rejection to the UN Security Council Resolution 1706 saying what was needed was that assistance should be provided to the African Union.
