Irresponsible conduct of UN personnel in South Sudan

James Ellery Abetting horrendous Crimes of Rampant Child Sexual Molestation in South Sudan.

By Peter Lokarlo Marsu

Jan 5, 2007 — The UNMIS personnel in South Sudan have manifestly exceeded the acceptable gradient of moral decency and have reached the pinnacle of criminal conduct, which is execrably and lamentably condoned at the highest UN circles. The unbridled rape cases chronicled by the reputable London based Paper The Daily Telegraph, have been placed under the carpet, by James Ellery despite, the existence of abundant evidence of irrefutable proportions, and no one in the World Organization is seriously disposed to denounce and adopt stringent measures against such horrendous acts and practices, if anything the UN senior officials normally deny any wrongdoing as was the case when James Ellery, the Colonial-besotted British regional coordinator for UNMIS based in Juba – South Sudan, flimsily argued that there was no corroborating evidence supporting the rape claims and that regular briefings to his personnel on the correct codes of conduct had dispelled any aphrodisiac tendencies in his unruly officials. Ellery in his maximum display of arrogance in Juba had the audacity to depict Sudan, as the most backward country in Africa and that people in South Sudan did not understand the role of the UN, as 90 percent of the people in South Sudan were illiterate. Such demonstration of bellicosity and rowdy conduct by a senior UN personnel calls for high priority investigations.

To aver that Sudan is the poorest country in Africa is a visible display of indefensible ignorance. Sudan is one of the countries vying with other few ones for limelight on the continent. With Gross National income per capita averaging more than $640, higher than in most African and Some Asian countries, it would be naïve for the British UN diplomat to dub Sudan as the poorest nation on the African continent.

Ellery must explicate the raison d’être for his outburst of insanity and instantaneously apologize to the South Sudanese whom he has extremely offended. Those were the most abhorrent and abysmal utterances emanating from a well-placed UN diplomat. Arguably James Ellery’s condoning and abetting of the despicable sex crimes committed by UNMIS personnel on infants in South Sudan plainly amounts to a criminal behaviour, which must be abhorred by all stakeholders who subscribe in moral integrity. Such arguments and denials have fallen short of the benchmark of civilized standards. Gone were the days when the British colonial delinquency in the country was the norm, when England fermented hotbeds for the current imbroglio across the globe, traversing from Kashmir to the Middle East including the question of the Kurds nationalities living in the four countries of Iraq, Syria Turkey. South Sudan is one of the victims of the lop-sided colonial strategy favored by England in their insatiable quest for imperialistic glories and economic resources in Africa.

The recent sex scandals in Haiti and Congo involving the rowdy UN contingents and civilian personnel amply manifest the appalling deportment of this Organization. By willfully engaging in unrestrained child rape, and failing to curb such excesses of the heinous crime will lead one to question the efficacy of the zero tolerance approach as stated by the UN Secretary General recently. The Government of South Sudan should act to bring the offenders to justice and put under intense surveillance the conduct of future criminals.

Ellery must understand that South Sudan is no longer a colonial fiefdom under the British Empire. The authorities in Juba reserve the right to request the UN for his discharge from South Sudan for his deliberate and offensive comments on South Sudanese in addition to abetting of the loathsome child sex molestation
