Egypt arrests Sudanese attempting to enter illegally in Israel

Jan 17, 2007 (RAFAH, Egypt) — Egypt’s security agencies managed to foil an attempt by a Sudanese to infiltrate into Israel via the international borders.

The Sudanese national was arrested while seeking to enter illegally the Israeli lands at the Mark “11” on the international borders, southern Rafah crossing, the official MENA reported.

At the end of December 2006, Sudanese refugees in Israel were received in the Israeli parliament to request lawmakers help to get political asylum.

About 250 of Sudanese refugees managed to arrive in Israel and asked for political asylum, but instead of receiving protection, they were thrown in jail for long months because they are nationals of an enemy state.

Israeli authorities released at least 50 Sudanese to kibbutzim and moshavim, and there is an ongoing public struggle to free those who remained in custody.

Technically the Sudanese are citizens of what Israel deems an enemy state and cannot stay.
