Iranian president arrives in Sudan for two-day visit
Feb 28, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad landed in Khartoum Wednesday for a two-day visit to Sudan.
He was met at airport by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, a day after a junior member of al-Bashir’s Cabinet was accused of war crimes in Darfur by the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
The visit brings together two presidents whose governments face strong pressure from the U.N. Security Council – Iran for its nuclear program and Sudan for refusing to allow U.N. peacekeepers in Darfur.
During his trip, Ahmadinejad is expected to deliver a lecture at a private institution in Khartoum and witness the signing of several bilateral agreements.
