Iran says ready to contribute in South Sudan development
Feb 28, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad , has expressed Iran’s readiness to look into all projects that can help bring about development in South Sudan.
In a meeting with the Sudanese First Vice President and President of Southern Sudan government, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday 28 February, the Iranian president reiterated his government’s commitment to support the peace process in Sudan.
The visiting president expressed Iran readiness to grant its various experiences in the fields of construction, energy, transportation, agriculture and health to accelerate development in southern Sudan.
Ahmadinejad heard a briefing from the first vice-president on the situation in Sudan after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the challenges facing the Government of National Unity in reconstructing, developing and bringing about peace in Darfur and convincing those opposed to join the peace process.
The First Vice-President said, “We hope that we can use Iranian experiences in the fields of road construction, school building, sanitation and security in southern Sudan.”
President Ahmadinejad expressed pleasure over establishment of tranquility in the southern area after a peace agreement was signed.
Salva Kiir stressed Sudan enjoyed religious and cultural diversity and coexistence.
The Sudanese first vice president referred to the good and old ties between Tehran-Khartoum and said strengthening such relations benefits both sides.
