Hijacked plane lands at Khartoum Airport

March 30, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — A plane hijacked while flying from Libya to Sudan has landed at Khartoum airport where authorities are negotiating with the hijacker, a Sudan Airways official at the airport said Friday.

The official said the plane was taken over by a single hijacker, but he did not know the hijacker’s nationality, motivations or what he was armed with.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the press, said the plane was a Libyan aircraft. He did not know how many people were on board.

However, an editor at the official Sudan News Agency said the plane belonged to Sudan Airways. The editor said she was too busy to speak further and ended the call.

It was not known how many people were on board the aircraft.
