Egypt, Sudan voices keenness on promoting bilateral ties

CAIRO, Jan 9, 2004 (Xinhua) — Egypt and Sudan on Friday ended their parliamentary committee meetings and voiced their keenness on promoting bilateral relations, Egypt’s official MENA news agency reported.

In a statement issued at the end of their meetings, the two sides called for boosting joint political and economic integration and development projects.

Egypt and Sudan should follow up the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the higher joint committee through specialized committees in both countries’ parliaments, the statement urged.

The statement, meanwhile, stressed “the necessity of bringing about peace, security and stability in Sudan in order to achieve development.”

It also underlined the importance of fostering bilateral parliamentary relations and coordinating stances in regional and international forums.

Iraq must restore its national sovereignty as son as possible, the statement said, stressing keenness on Iraq’s unity and independence.

The two sides expressed their hope that the Middle East peace process would be pushed forward and the Palestinian people would restore all their rights and set up their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
