Hemetti declines chairing panel to review Empowerment Removal Committee

November 15, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Mohamed Hamdan Daglo aka “Hemetti”, First Vice-Chairman of the Sovereignty Council declined to chair the Empowerment Removal Review Committee.

On 9 November, the chief commander of the Sudanese who took over power on the 25th of October issued a decree appointing Hemetti as chair of a committee to review and receive funds restored through the Empowerment Removal Committee.

The official news agency SUNA on Monday reported that Hemetti informed al-Burhan of his decision to not chair the review committee.

On 25 October, the coup leader dissolved the transitional government and suspended the Empowerment Removal Committee, which is tasked with the dismantlement of the former regime.

The head of the Sudanese army was hostile to the committee and its leaders who openly criticised the continued involvement of the military component in controversial economic activities.

Already on 27 September, al-Burhan directed to withdraw security forces guarding 22 of the committee premises.

Established on November 29, 2019, the removal committee recovered a number of companies, real estates and huge assets confiscated from the dignitaries of the al-Bashir regime.
