E. Equatoria Governor to appear before South Sudan Supreme Court

May 25, 2007 (JUBA) — The supreme court of southern Sudan has, today May 25th 2007, received officially and accepted the petition on civilian court instigated by Governor Aloisio Emor Ojetuk and his associates to adjudicate on and summons are being send to the Governor and witness to appear before Southern Sudan Supreme Court on June 8th 2007 for the hearing.
The petition filed by Hon. Dr. Richard Mula on behalf of Hon. Adelino Michale Opi, the legitimate ousted Speaker and Hon. Mark Lokitoi Lokuta the legitimate Deputy Speaker of Eastern Equatotia State Interim Legislative Assembly who were ousted in a civilian court instigated by HE Governor Alosio Emor Ojetuk in April 2007.
It is to be recalled that the first petition was presented by Hon. Ohisa A. Lais, Chairman of the specialized committee of Eastern Equatoria State Interim Legislative Assembly on April 12th 2007 and later handed it over to advocate Hon. Dr. Richad Mulaa on April 15th 2007 to represent the two plaintiffs.
According to Hon. Ohisa, the Supreme Court has requested him to present the petition in accordance to article 18 of Sudan of Sudan constitutional act 2005 and also advised him to hire an advocate who has at least twenty years experience.
The on going constitutional crisis in Eastern Equatoria State is the first ever constitutional case in the history of southern Sudan.
Since this constitutional crisis unfolded in April 2007 in the historic state of Eastern Equatoria, more than 60 people have lost their lives in a suspicious environment and the innocent grassroots people are blaming their politicians being indirectly fueling the situation in the affected areas of Torit and Chukudum counties.
Prior to Governor Ojetuk instigated court, Governor Ojetuk expelled senior journalist Isaac Vuni from Eastern Equatoria state for having exposed killing of innocent people, denial of women right in the cabinet and dubious projects owned by some family members cabinet members in the state for construction of school in memory of late Dr. John Garang de Mabior. Among others corrupt practices in the state.
