South Sudan’s Bahr el Ghazal to be connected by road soon

June 15, 2007 (WAU) — Southern Sudan’s Minister of Roads and Transport, Rebecca Garang Nyandeng, said that her Ministry intends to construct major roads connecting Western Bahr el Ghazal State to other parts of the Sudan.

The minister said the construction of Wau-Tonj road is progressing and the road might be handed over to the Government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State within one month.

She further said that the construction of Wau-Gogrial-Abyei road is also in progress. The minister announced plans to construct Wau-Raga and Wau-Tombura roads including three bridges along Wau-Aweil road in the near future.

Nyandeng was addressing the council of ministers of Western Bahr El Ghazal during her one-day visit to Wau town, the UN sponsored Miraya Radio reported.

Meanwhile the Governor of Western Bahr el-Ghazal, Gen. Mark Nypoc, congratulated the women of the State for their active role in maintaining roads. Nypoc praised the efforts of the government of southern Sudan and the United Nations Mission on the reconstruction.
