December 17, 2021 (KHARTOUM) – Gunmen rapped a 13-year-old girl in the Umbrembeta locality of South Kordofan last week, said a local rights group in a statement extended to the Sudan Tribune on Friday.

The sexual assault confirm reports by the UNOCHA describing the security situation in South Kordofan as “tense and volatile”.

Below is the full text of HUDO Centre:

On 8th November 2021, three armed men raped a young girl (S. A. I) in the presence of her mother while they were together at their farm near Umbrembeta. The victim has remained with serious psychological trauma. This case was reported at the Umbrembeta police office but there were no further investigations carried out.

On 8th November 2021, Ms H. A. T (47 years old) together with her daughter S. A. I (13 years old)  were at their farm harvesting sesame near Umbrembeta. They were suddenly attacked by three armed men who assaulted (beat up) the mother. Two of the gunmen pointed their guns at the mother’s head while the third person undressed the daughter and raped her. Thereafter, the three gunmen disappeared.

Later on, the mother with the assistance of other farmers rushed the rape victim (daughter) to  Umbrembeta hospital. The medical report confirmed that there was rape and the case was filed according to the mother’s testimony at Umbrembeta police. But nobody has been arrested yet. The victim was later referred with urine retention and injuries to Al-Rahad hospital where she has received further physical treatment. She is now suffering from psychological trauma and mental stress.

Umbrembeta is a town in the Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. The victim’s family farm is 7km east of Umbrembeta town. Al-Rahad is a town in North Kordufan State and it’s about 85 km from Umbrembeta.

HUDO Centre is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon:

Police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to execute their duties responsibly and to immediately investigate this case as well as apprehend the accused people.

The prosecutor in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is a rule of law. The security committee in South Kordufan State to dissolve, disarm militias, and ensure the safety of civilians.
