Army has crushed Darfur rebellion : Al- Beshir
KHARTOUM, Feb 9 (AFP) — Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir said Monday that the army had crushed a year-old rebellion in the western Darfur region and all three component states were now “entirely in government hands”.
In a military communique put out by his office, Beshir proclaimed the “end of military operations” and a general amnesty throughout the region.
Late last month, the Sudanese army announced it had taken control of a number of districts on the border with Chad, including the divided town of Tineh.
The operation sparked a fresh exodus of refugees across the frontier.
