Sudanese Refugees Association in Israel

The Sudanese Refugees Association in Israel exists to aid the Sudanese in Israel and to bring all of them together so as to work with Israeli Communities. We are a marginalized people in this Country, and do not know where we are going from here. If we do not act now, then we will allow our people to become victims again.

GOALS:

To bring all Sudanese refugees in Israel together under one head, from all tribes, whether Christian or Muslim.

To provide a central point of contact for other relief agencies wishing to help the Sudanese.

To help the Sudanese refugees in Israel to acclimate themselves to their new home Israel.

To serve as a resource center for Sudanese refugees to find where appropriate medical and other services can be sought in Israel.

To serve as a liaison between the Sudanese refugees and the government of Israel, as well as the UNHCR.

To provide translators for Sudanese when dealing with the government, doctors, hospitals, and other Israeli institutions.

To provide officials spokespersons to the Israeli officials, the news media, etc.

To help identify the refugees in Israel who are legitimately Sudanese, and to distinguish them from impostors from other Countries.

To care for and preserve our traditions and customs as Sudanese.

To promote Sudanese cultural holidays.

To assist in getting appropriate visas for refugees to go to other Countries and to return.

To establish our own self-governing legal system. In Sudan we have our own customs and laws that preserve our society, but in Israel we have absolute freedom.

To prevent this freedom destroying the fabric of our society, we would like to establish our own comprehensive social laws for our people.

1- If commit adultery, four years in prison without investigation, as well the payment of seven cows.

2- If you impregnant a single woman, and do not wish to marry her, you should pay the eleven cows, as well as serve two years in prison without investigation .If, however, you do wish to marry her, then you pay the same amount of dowry that you would under normal circumstances, and marry the girl.

3- For those who took someone else’s wife with them when they fled from Egypt to Israel, if a problem arises and they wish to send those women away, they must return them to Egypt or the Sudan.

4- To put the children in school from the age of ten to thirteen.

5- If you have relations with a girl under fourteen and she gets pregnant, you must go to prison for fourteen years without investigation.

6- Marriages should be according to either Christian law under the Church, or according to Muslim law under the mosque, with two witnesses from the bride’s side and two witnesses from groom’s side signing the certificate of marriage.

7- The normal dowry for a beautiful girl is one hundred cows. The price of a cow is $200 (or equivalent in sheqels).

The smaller problems like these we can tackle ourselves, but the bigger problems we can turn over to the government of Israel.

Thank you very much and may God’s peace be upon you all

sincerely, Majier Anyuat Pap
