Wife of Sudan’s former prime minister dies

February 06, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Sara Al-Fadil, wife of former Sudanese Prime Minister and leader of the opposition Umma party Sadiq al-Mahdi has passed away in Khartoum yesterday, party figures told Sudan Tribune.

Al-Fadil died around 2 pm local Sudan time after the adjournment of a meeting she attended between Umma party and Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) delegation led by its Secretary General Pagan Amum.

Al-Fadil was a member of the Umma Party political bureau as well as the general secretariat. She suffered a massive heart attack following the meeting. All attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Sara Al-Fadil married Al-Mahdi after finishing college in the US in 1962. She was an active political figure as part of the Umma party and was jailed during former president Ja’far Nimeiri presidency as well as after the 1989 coup led by Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.

Al-Mahdi is also married to Hafeya Mamoun whom he married before Al-Fadil but has maintained a very low profile. The fomer prime minister has ten children from both marriages; 6 girls and 4 boys.

The funeral will be held today in Omdurman.

condonlence,we have no opptions when coming to the beyond capacity like death.
however, the meeting should continous, because she has not gone with the party’s activities, documents and may be the meeting was having an aim of solving some crises in the contry. So go head with that unity of the opposition parties and opperats jointly for easy over-coming of the so called ruling NCP of Gen. Bashir and his dictators as well.

    May God forgive her,

Sarah had dedicated her life to her husband’s party. I hope her meeting with the SPLM as pre-CPA partners in the so-called National Democratic Alliance (NDA)has nothing to do with her death.

The SPLM has got a new partner, the National Congress Party (NCP), which Sarah might have attempted to divorce. Pagan Amum might have refused to divorce the NCP, which is a peace partner.

Any way, may her soul rest in eternal peace.

    Cheers,
