June 8, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Yasir Arman Deputy Head of the SPLM N denounced statements by the movement’s leader, Malik Agar, who criticized the demonstrations against the military coup and called on him to stand with the revolution.

In a video investigation broadcast on June 6 by the Asharq TV channel about the political stalemate in Sudan after the military’s seizure of power, Malik Agar described the anti-coup protests saying “what is happening in Sudan is chaos and terrorism against the state.”

He added that the demonstrations are being carried out by children who should go to clubs or schools.

The statement of the SPLM-N chairman triggered condemnations from the opponents of the coup and a lawyer group defending Resistance Committees announced they would file a lawsuit against him.

“I am saddened by such remarks from comrade Malik Agar, who has been a friend for years. I and the majority of the SPLM-N members who participated and are participating in the revolution have condemned these statements,” he said.

Arman had refused to take any ministerial position but devoted his time to building the movement’s structures and remained an active member of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) coalition. He served as a political advisor to the former prime minister for the last six months before the coup.

Arman said Sudan’s new vision is inconsistent with describing the revolution as terrorism.

“I think that the real terrorism is in killing young people and the real terrorism is to use the weapons of the people and the money of the people to kill the sons and daughters of the people.”

It was the revolution that started in Damazin of the Blue Nile state that brought us to Khartoum, and we could not sign the peace agreement despite our great sacrifices except for this revolution,” he emphasized.

Nevertheless, Arman adhered to the SPLM-N’s unity and said that he was one of the founders of the SPLM-N in Sudan after the independence of the south, and of the second generation in the SPLM.

He disclosed that out that there is a dialogue going on within the SPLM-N about the movement’s position on the coup and the way forward.
Aqar has previously criticized the FFC saying that the conflict between the military and the FFC is a struggle over power.
