June 28, 2022 (KADUGLI) – South Kordofan Governor Musa Jabr disclosed that the SPLM-N led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu has promised to release health workers detained three months ago.

The armed group last March kidnapped five health workers including two women participating in a measles vaccination campaign in the Saraf El-Murr area of Abukarshola locality.

“We have made appreciable efforts with the SPLM over the past period to release the health workers, and they promised us that they would free them soon,” Jabr told the Sudan Tribune on Tuesday.

He further renewed calls to expedite their release, stressing that the kidnapped are innocent health workers,  doing a humanitarian mission and had nothing to do with anything else.

The SPLM-N has rejected that aid workers come to rebel-controlled areas because they suspect these workers of belonging to the military intelligence service.

The Sudan Tribune failed to reach SPLM-N Secretary-General Ammar Amon for comment despite attempts to reach him.

After the ouster of the former al-Bashir regime, the Sudanese army and the SPLM-N al-Hilu have declared unilateral cession of hostilities.

However, the peace talks are suspended as the two parties failed to make progress in the negotiations.
