SPLM-N secretariat calls for emergency conference over Agar’s positions
August 16, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The General Secretary of the SPLM-N led by Malik Agar Tuesday called to convene an extraordinary conference to settle internal differences after statements by its leader against the group’s participation in ab anti-coup coalition.
After the coup d’état, the SPLM-N leader Agar who is a member of the Sovereign Council made several statements criticising the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC).
Later, he distanced himself from the participation of his deputy Yasir Arman and other members of the SPLM-N secretary in the FFC meetings.
On the other hand, Arman and the other leaders reaffirmed their stance against the coup, saying true peace requires a democratic environment.
In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, the General Secretariat decided to move forward with the “revolutionary democratic line” consistent with the vision and principles of the SPLM-N.
“We call upon the members of the leadership office to take without delay the necessary measures, in accordance with the Movement’s constitution and statutes, to hold an emergency conference to ensure that matters are set on the right track”.
They added they sought patiently to tackle the divergences with the hope that internal dialogue would lead to preserving the Movement’s principles and historical line so as to spare it any division in these delicate circumstances that the country is experiencing.
The secretary said that Agar went far in his alliance with the coup leaders, even after the recent tribal violence in the SPLM-N government Blue Nile region which claimed the lives of more than one hundred people.
The statement stressed that the intercommunal attacks were orchestrated by the putschists and the” deep state apparatus” in reference to the former regime.
Buthaina Dinar Federal Minister of Federal Government and SPLM-N leadership member officially resigned from her position on Sunday.
Dinar stressed the need to complete the revolution and achieve its slogans calling to end the coup and restore civil rule.
The statement, which referred to ethnic and regional agenda, said strategic decisions such as the position on the military coup cannot be taken without the institutions entrusted with making such decisions.
