Rights groups urge protection of civilians, peace in Sudan

^{October 26, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Rights groups have called for an immediate end to the use of force by Sudan’s security forces, amid calls for protection of civilians and restoration of peace.}

^{The call from the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the African Center for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) and Sudanese Human Rights Monitor (SHRM) came a year after the military took over power in Sudan.}

 ^{Deadly repression continues against popular and peaceful demonstrations calling for an urgent civilian transition.}

^{“FIDH and its members condemn the lack of transparency in the political agreements that are being drafted and are inviting actors to respect the full inclusion of civil society and ensure the respect of its demand towards a civilian transition,” partly reads a joint statement extended to Sudan Tribune.}

^{FIDH’s president, Alice Mogwe said the current crisis in Sudan and its escalating violence underscore the need for an urgent transition to a democratic dispensation responsive and accountable to peoples’ needs.}

^{Since the military coup in 2021, the security situation has continuously deteriorated throughout the country.}

^{FIDH said it is “deeply” worried by the surge of violence in Blue Nile state where at least 220 people were recently killed.}

^{The called for independent investigations to be conducted so all perpetrators are held accountable and victims given justice.}
