November 1, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – At least 97,094 people have been displaced due to the recent events in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, the latest International Organisation for Migration Displacement Tracking Matrix (IOM-DTM) shows.

The displacement follows tribal clashes that erupted in July between the Funj (Hamaj and Berta) and Hausa continue to shake Blue Nile State as it gradually appears the former also targets the region’s government and the SPLM-N rebels of Malik Agar.

The displaced, according to IOM, are mainly from the areas of clashes in the restive Blue Nile to Sennar, White Nile, Al Jazirah, Gedaref, Khartoum and the Red Sea states.

Authorities in Blue Nile earlier placed the death toll from the recent tribal violence at 287 as government continued deploying security forces in the restive area.

Blue Nile’s Health minister said they were now preparing to carry out a new survey to update their statistics after deploying security forces in the areas of concern.

He added that the new assessment would be carried out with the participation of teams from the army, police, criminalists, public prosecution and Health ministry.

The conflict dynamics, according to IOM, remain extremely volatile across the affected localities and mobility of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) remains fluid, with locations and figures of displacement subject to variation.
