Sudan’s Defense minister commends Juba’s role in peace process
November 1, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s Defense Minister, Major Gen. Yassin Ibrahim has lauded Juba’s role in ensuring peace and stability prevails in his nation.
He made the remarks while meeting members of the Juba Peace Mediation Committee on Tuesday to review progress made in implementing the Juba Agreement signed in October 2020.
During the meeting, SUNA reported, the Darfur Track Security Arrangements Committee also presented the difficulties they are facing in relation to the implementation of the Juba Agreement – Darfur Track
“We hope the security arrangements protocol will be implemented in the Darfur track,” said Yassin.
South Sudan’s Investment minister, Dhieu Mathok Diing stressed the importance of assembling and integrating forces, in addition to the demobilisation of the forces.
“This represents an important stage in achieving stability and the democratic transformation stressing,” he said, adding “Sudan is an important country”.
Diing called on local and external active partners, especially the United Nations, to provide the technical and financial support needed for stability and the democratic transformation of Sudan.
“The stability of Sudan represents stability for South Sudan,” he stressed.
The head of Darfur Track Security Arrangements Committee, Major Gen. Abu Bakr Abu Degin said it was important to follow up implementation of the Juba Agreement-Darfur Track.
He affirmed that all procedures have been completed for deployment of security forces in Darfur.
“We will work with our national capabilities to deploy security forces in Darfur,” said Abu.
The Darfur Track was signed between the Transitional Government of Sudan and the Darfur armed movements during the peace talks in Juba on December 28, 2019.
