Egyptian FM discusses peace progress with Sudanese visiting minister

CAIRO, Feb 23, 2004 (MENA) — Negotiations with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) are proceeding well towards the desired end, said Sudanese Information Minister Al-Zahawi Malik.

In statements following his meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Mahir in Cairo on Monday, Al-Zahawi denied any obstacles blocking the peace talks. He denied that his visit aims to ask for any type of rhetoric the media should adopt in the post-peace agreement stage.

He said his talks with Mahir addressed the outcome of the latest Egyptian-Sudanese talks and ways to put them into action.

Now six joint committees are poring over what has been agreed upon in order to put them into force, said Al-Zahawi.

One of the projects that have been endorsed by the two sides is unifying the media rhetoric between the two countries and familiarizing citizens of the two sides with the integration projects and their benefits or the obstacles facing them, added Zahawi.
