November 11, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Families of the Victims of the December Revolution voiced their rejection of any political settlement that lead to exempting the military leaders from accountability.

On Tuesday, November 11, the Trilateral Mechanism met with the Organization of the Families of the Martyrs of the December Revolution to brief them on the ongoing efforts to restore a civilian transitional government on the basis of a draft constitution prepared by the Sudanese Bar Association.

In a statement released on Friday, the organization said that they learned that only will face justice those who shot the victims.

“The top commanders of the army would not be prosecuted, though al-Burhan an Hemetti would not face trial,” stressed the statement.

“The organization has reiterated its rejection of any negotiation on its behalf by anyone, emphasizing they are the only stakeholders that determine either retribution or blood money or pardon,” the group emphasized.

On November 10, the tripartite facilitation mechanism announced that the political and military components have reached several understandings regarding the transitional constitution. The panel further added that they plan to hold direct and indirect talks between the Sudanese stakeholders in the coming days.

“We see these understandings as a sound basis for negotiations on substance. Some key issues remain to be resolved, including questions regarding transitional justice,” the three members of the facilitation panel wrote in a joint article.

The difficult issue of justice also divides the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) as many say that a clear and detailed position should be included in any agreement with the military component to reassure the families of the victims.

The organization said they held two separate meetings with the FFC groups and UNITAMS where they repeated their position.
